5 unknown football rules
1. Do you know flat ball goals do not count?
If a player score a goal but the ball goes flat on the way or when it goes in the net, the goal doesn't count!!!! So as soon as the ball is not in proper condition, the game should be stopped until the ball is replaced at the place where the ball goes flat.
2. Can a goalkeeper score a goal in football?
It is rare to see a goalkeeper score a goal, but there are no restrictions on goalkeeping scoring goals (also known as field goal). Goalkeeper goals are relatively rare as they spend most of the time in the penalty area and defending their own goal. Besides, goalkeepers often act as a support by making long passes that contribute to their team's offence.
3. What if the ball hits the referee?
Do you know the referee is considered part of the game, and even the field, just like the corner flag or goalposts? If a ball hits or touches the referee during the match, it is called “unintentional interference”.
If the ball touches the referee and scores a goal, either the match will be stopped or a dropped ball will be awarded. If the ball rebounds off the referee and goes out of bounds, a throw-in or corner kick will be awarded to the team that last touched the ball. Ultimately, the final decision is up to the referee.
4. Keeper can hold the ball only for 6 seconds
According to the FIFA laws, a goalkeeper is allowed to hold the ball under certain conditions:
- Goalkeeper can hold the ball with hands in their own penalty area.
- Goalkeeper can only pass the balls with hands if the back-pass ball is played using other body parts (except foot).
- Goalkeeper only allowed to hold a ball for 6 seconds, else indirect free kicks might be awarded to the opposing team if the ball holds longer than that.
5. A match cannot be played without corner flags
Corner flags are one of the essential parts of a football match, and do you know a game can’t start without corner flags? Corner flags are the corner kicks marking and reference point, the field boundaries, as well as the safety measure to avoid collisions at the corner area. Hence, a football match cannot go ahead when there are no corner flags on the pitch. This actually happened during the 1974 FIFA World Cup final between Germany and Holland. The match was delayed as there were no corner flags on the pitch.
