Lionel Messi First Inter Miami Championship For Leagues Cup 2023

Lionel Messi has scored and earned the first champion title for Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup, during the game against Nashville 1-1 draw game, then penalties (10-9) on Saturday night. Messi also earned the Leagues Cup Best Player and Top Scorer awards with 10 goals and four assists.

Inter Miami First Leagues Cup Champion Title 

This was the first time Inter Miami has ever claimed a trophy and even championship title in any game, not to mention a huge game like the League Cup. The final Leagues Cup 2023 title was decided based on penalties 10-9, after the first match tied at 1-1. Inter Miami scored10 goals when it came down to penalties-  Messi converting the first, followed by Campana. The Inter Miami goalkeeper also performed excellently in saving the penalties against Nashville, end up secure Inter Miami's first ever championship title and Leagues Cup Champion title in Inter Miami history. 

Inter Miami Leagues Cup Results

• 2-1 win vs. Cruz Azul

Messi kicked off his debut kick as the new member of Inter Miami in his first game against Cruz Azul in just 40 minutes after the game.

• 4-0 win vs. Atlanta United

In this spectacular 4-0 victory, Robert Taylor scored two goals, followed by Lionel Messi scoring another two first-half goals. 

• 3-1 win vs. Orlando City SC

He scored two goals in the game against Orlando City SC , and brought the team advance to the round of 16.

• 4-4 draw (5-3 PKs win) at FC Dallas

The game against FC Dallas had reached a 4-4 comeback draw and forced penalty kicks to decide the final winner. 

• 4-0 win vs. Charlotte FC

In this Quarterfinal, Messi scored his eighth goal representing Inter Miami in the 86th minute. Leonardo Campana also made a goal where he split two defenders with a pass from the low left of the penalty area.

• 4-1 win at Philadelphia Union

The semifinal game ended with a 4-1 victory, where Messi scored a goal from 30 yards past three Philadelphia defenders. 

• 1-1 draw (10-9 PKs win) at Nashville SC

Messi scored the first goal in the Leagues Cup final in the 23rd minute, broke through four defenders around him, and scored the goal with his left boot. This is also the 10 goals in 7 games after he joined Inter Miami. 

 

Messi 44th trophies

As the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) player and the best striker in soccer history, Lionel Messi has earned his 44 trophies for club and country. This is a whole new world-record for him and even broke the record of his former FC Barcelona teammate Dani Alves (43) in that category. Messi also earned the Leagues Cup Best Player and Top Scorer awards with 10 goals and four assists.

Lionel Messi Lift Trophy Together with former skipper DeAndre Yedlin 

One of the highlights during the Leagues Cups ceremony was when Messi offered Inter Miami's former skipper DeAndre Yedlin the captain's armband and lifted the Leagues Cup trophy together to accept the trophy and lead the celebration! The legendary has the cutest mindset ever to make sure the former captain's previous hard work and efforts was recognized.  

Messi is extremely humble despite having the Leagues Cup Best Player and Top Scorer title, he insists on inviting the team to share this gaining the victory and show the greatest gratitude to everyone.
