Lionel Messi officially joined Inter Miami FC until 2025

Major League Soccer club - Inter Miami CF has officially announced the transfers of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup Champion, Argentina player Lionel Messi. Lionel Messi will take up the Designated Player ( a roster mechanism in Major League Soccer offers higher salaries to top-tier players without violating the league's financial restrictions.) slot under the contract signed until the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The official announcement of  Messi joining the ceremony to the public also took place last Sunday evening (17 July 2023) at Inter Miami CF stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

The club is owned by a group of investors that includes two local Miami entrepreneurs, Jorge Mas and his brother Jose Mas and David Beckham, a former professional soccer player and global icon. Beckham's involvement in the club also has brought Messi's joining to Inter Miami CF.\

The 36-year-old Argentina player Lionel Messi has announced on 7 June 2023 that he will be leaving Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and it is the first time Messi will play for a club outside of Europe in his professional career.

Messi’s achievement for two seasons in Paris Saint-Germain in France includes 32 goals and 35 assists for his 75 appearances,  voted as Best Foreign PLayer of the Season after scoring 16 league goals and adding 16 league assists.

Messi Opening Match & Transfer Deal

Messi's first match as an official player of Inter Miami CF is expected to take place on 21 July 2023, the opening match of the League Cup, against Cruz Azul. Inter Miami CF mentioned that Messi’s transfer deal is between $50 million and $60 million annually for 2 and a ½ seasons. Inter Miami CF has earned USD 255 million for the past 5 years and with the agreement with Messi, it is expected that the club’s value will continue to rise
